Award for CISM Professor in Mobile Healthcare

Professor Robert Istepanian has been honoured by his peers for his pioneering role in the field of mobile healthcare.
Robert won the prestigious IEEE Transactions on Information Technology in Biomedicine, 2009 Outstanding Paper Award for his paper called 'Introduction to the Special Section on M-Health: Beyond Seamless Mobility and Global Wireless Health-Care Connectivity'.
This seminal paper published in IEEE journal Transactions on Information Technology in Biomedicine, December 2004, established a new research paradigm in this area and considered one of the most cited paper in the area.
The award is the most coveted recognition in the areas of medical information and communication systems; Robert was also awarded $500 in prize money, whom he donated back to the society in memory of the founding editor of the Transactions Professor Swamy Laxminaryan.
The award ceremony was held at the 31st IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Conference in Minneapolis in the USA in early Sept 2009.
The IEEE is the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers, and the world's leading and largest professional association for the advancement of electronic and electronic engineering and related disciplined and technologies.
Robert is the founding Director of Kingston's Mobile Information and Network Technologies Research Centre and is a leading figure in other research groups, both within the university and worldwide.
